A weekend at home in Devon (in pictures)
The past few weeks have been a whirlwind of short breaks, nights away from the kids and a weekend blog conference for me. In between there’s been work and the usual daily routines to keep us busy. It’s been brilliant, inspiring and exhausting.
We were overdue some quality family time at home and last week we got it. Here’s what a ‘normal’ weekend in Devon looks like for us.
I work part-time so the weekend starts on Thursday for the Tin Box girls and I. The weather was looking good so we went to the beach for a picnic.
We visited North Sands in Salcombe as Tin Box Tot wanted to make sandcastles. The tide was right up but there was a thin strip of dry land for us to set up our picnic blanket and get out the buckets and spades.

On Saturday we took the girls swimming in Torquay – something that is becoming a regular request. On our way home we had a walk at Berry Head in Brixham. There’s some great views and a lot of space to run around as well as a child and dog-friendly cafe – The Guardhouse.

With more fine weather forecast on Sunday we decided to make the most of it with a trip to our local farm. The Tin Box Grandparents had taken the girls to Totnes Rare Breeds Farm while we were away in Jersey a few weekends before.
Tin Box Tot loved revisiting the sheep, owls, guinea pigs and goats.

We had a extremely enjoyable weekend exploring our local area and being together as a family. Luckily it’s not too long before we get some more quality time as a fivesome as we have a week’s holiday coming up. Bring on the adventures!
I love hearing what people think about my blog so feel free to leave a comment below or browse around. You can also find me on Bloglovin’, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Youtube, Google+ and LinkedIn.

We went to this part of Devon when our two were still littlies, it’s a great place for children. How lovely to have it right on your doorstep 🙂
We do feel super lucky to live here and are trying to make the most of every minute that we can 🙂
That looks like an idyllic adventure thanks for linking to #TravelAtHome! As an aside where did you get that wonderful bunny coverall your daughter is wearing? Mini EE does not like wearing coats at all and something that cute might persuade her otherwise.
It’s a Regatta all in one that we picked up from Go Outdoors here in the UK. It gets A LOT of use 🙂
Love your photos – just stunning and looks like a perfect weekend! It’s fab to have some quality time together as a family, it’s funny how sometimes life just gets so busy. Hope you’re having a lovely weekend xx #familyfun
It felt totally refreshing to just spend time together in our area. Sadly Mr TB is working this weekend and I’m away next week – back to busy days! x
Congratulations on the MADS. I must admit that it’s the first time I’ve come by your blog. I love your photography. It’s great to have some family time and just do something around home without the pressures of long trips in the car. You managed to pack a lot in to a long weekend! Thanks for linking up to #Familyfun. I’ll keep an eye your blog in the future, I love a bit of adventure
Thank you! It’s always great to connect with new readers. Thanks for stopping by!
that coastline looks gorgeous!
what lovely photos! your daughter is brave feeding the licky sheep! thanks for sharing #familyfun
It was her second time at this farm so she was asking to do it before we’d even got in to the sheep pen. They are greedy little things though – they practically rip off your arm for the bottle 🙂
How Happy does tot look with that guinea pig and I love the sheep – so curly! Gorgeous photos as always especially no3. of tot looking out to sea (and the all in one suit is fab – super cute). SO happy for you with your much deserved nomination. You have my vote! TY for linking up to #FamilyFun
Thanks so much Catie. The all-in-one has hardly come off so far this year. And no – we’re not sponsored by Regatta #totallyshouldbe 😉 And thank you for your support. I really appreciate it! x
I thunk you may just live in the best place in the UK – just absolutely beautiful – very envious! Gorgeous pictures too. Huge congratulations on the awards – wishing you all the best!! #familyfun
It is pretty special here. We feel so lucky and are making the most of it until Mr TB’s next job move. Thanks so much for the kind wishes 🙂

Ah! What fabulous photos. They gave me goosebumps because you can see the joy in their faces! The guinea pic one is precious! Family times in a beautiful place. As my youngest often says when we are on holiday in our Sterling Europa Touring caravan (Penny) ‘This is the life for me.’!! I can practically smell the sea air 🙂

P.S. COmmentLuv is driving me mad because for some reason it doesn’t like my domain or RSS feed. It’s okay on some sites but not on others…Any ideas, let me know!
Aww, thank you! I sometimes have problems with CommentLuv showing a link back to my most recent post. I find that it works if you complete your comment, your details and then click back into the comment box. Does that help?
This looks like a beautiful place. I love how you managed to cram so much into one weekend! I love the picture of her in her all in one with her feet in the water, I think this pretty much sums up our weather this month doesn’t it! #kcacols

Absolutely! It can’t decide what it’s doing. I don’t think we’re ever going out without our all-in-ones 🙂
Wow what a fantastic time you’ve all had! I love Devon, a lot of my childhood summers were spent in and around Dartmouth with family! Lovely photos! #kcacols

Aww, your daughter looks ecstatic in the midst of all the animals. I am shocked that she has her feet in the water as our lake is absolutely freezing still! I love reading blogs from all over the world 😀
Thanks so much for linking with #KCACOLS! I hope you come back next Sunday!

I love that she’s paddling with her all-in-one suit on! It must have been cold, I don’t think I’d have been brave enough! Gorgeous pictures x
Fantastic photos, Tin Box Tot looks so happy with daddy in that photo of her on the rock, it’s gorgeous. You certainly seem to have had a good weekend at home, Devon is a great place to live and you must have loads to do on your doorstop. Brave girl going in the cold water at this time of year too, not sure I would do that up here! Good luck in the MADs, you’ve definitely got my vote. Thanks for linking up to #Whatevertheweather 🙂 x

Such gorgeous pictures!!! I particularly love the one of tinbox tot in the sea. Congratulations on your nomination, that’s such fab news. You must be so chuffed, it’s really well deserved. You live in such a beautiful area. Having the sea so close by really makes the move worth it doesn’t it. It’s such a lovely place to grow up .Thank you so much for sharing this with Whatever The Weather xx

That looks so much fun and great time spend with the family. Nothing beats the beach and I bet tour little one loved the petting session X #countrykids
Wonderful, busy family weekends (and weekdays) are the best. Amen to working part-time! #CountryKids
I love all the photos but the tiny one’s amazed and joyous face ‘climbing’ that rock, and the paddling in the sea but crikey it’s cold spread out hands are my favourites.
What a beautiful weekend for you all, you definitely had the weather to enjoy it! Picnics on the beach are always a favourite here with us, as long as it’s not raining they’re up for it and it’s fab to see your two are the same. TBT has such smiley happy faces in the shots from your Saturday afternoon walk. She looks so pleased to be meeting the animals again too. Thanks for linking up with me on #CountryKids.

The photo of your little one standing in the water is just wonderful
How lovely! All these places are near me so very familiar! Looks like you enjoyed some fab weather and quality family time #whatevertheweather
Really lovely photos, looks like you had a great time. When you’re busy, family time is so precious and it looks like you’re making the most of it! You’re so lucky living near the coast, the nice weather these last couple of days have left me hankering after a some beach time. Enjoy your holiday, I’m very very jealous 🙂

Beautiful photos, it looks like you all had a lovely time! We love the seaside at our house!
It looks like beautiful coastline. You’re so lucky to live within easy distance. We live in a similar sort of area in north Wales and sometimes I forget just how lucky we are until you start looking at other areas. It’s always good finding a cafe that’s both child and dog friendly too.
Gorgeous pictures! You are lucky to live near the beach, my girls would be there every day if we did. x #WhatevertheWeather
Wow, that’s one very fluffy sheep ! Love the big grins – you obviously all had a lot of fun 🙂 #whatevertheweather

Where did you go for a swim in Torquay? I recently went to the Aztec pool in Torquay, it is really lovely and they have a completely separate pool for the kiddies. They also have a cafe and soft play too. Definitely worth a visit.
I love Berry Head, great place for a dog walk 🙂

We went to the Riviera International Centre. It’s somewhere we found when we holidayed in Devon last summer. It also has a cafe and soft play but maybe we’ll check out Aztec next time. I saw your review and it does look good.
Sounds like a perfect weekend. Family time on your own is so important. We really struggle with fitting it in. When we do, we are quite lazy! It is so rare to get the chance to just ‘be’ at home! We have been on the South Devon steam train a couple of times now and not yet made it to the Rare Breeds Farm. Must make sure to do so next time. Kathy xx
It was a lovely little place. You could pop in for an hour or spend longer. We haven’t been on the train yet, so that will be another day out for us next time we have a rare weekend free at home 🙂 x
