Adventure golf at China Fleet Country Club in Cornwall

With outdoor fun being the name of the game in 2020 China Fleet County Club in Cornwall couldn’t have picked a better year to open its Woodland Adventure Golf attraction. We were invited to go and try it out over October half term.

NB. China Fleet Country Club will be closed during lockdown and plans to reopen on 2 December 2020.

If you know China Fleet Country Club in Saltash you’ll be aware it has a superb 18 hole golf course set in 180 acres of Cornish countryside beside the Tamar River. It also has a brilliant spa, swimming pool and great family-friendly accommodation

We’re also big fans of the special events at China Fleet Country Club, like its Santa’s Grotto and Christmas parties.

Now, China Fleet Club can add crazy golf to its attractions. The new woodland-themed adventure golf course opened in the summer. There are 18 holes where you can practice your best shots under the scrutiny of carved forest creatures.

There’s obstacles, water features, short cuts and even a pulley bridge to get you between holes 17 and 18.

Top tip: watch out for hole no. 7 with its raised hole in the middle of the green. That one defeated us all.

We visited China Fleet Country Club when the course was dressed for Halloween with cobwebs, grave stones, skeletons and spiders all cloaked in a creepy mist floating across the course. There was also spooky music and howling as well as frightfully bad Halloween jokes from the talking tree.

There are plans to theme the course for other seasonal events in the future.

We had plenty of laughs during our hour on the course. The kids enjoyed finding different routes to each hole and would have happily gone around again if it hadn’t been a bit damp when we visited.

Cabin Bar

Inside Cabin Bar at China Fleet

The Woodland Adventure Golf course has its own cafe, the Cabin Bar, where you can get drinks, sandwiches, hot lunches and pizza. You can grab and go or sit down to eat.

The whole menu is reasonably priced and there’s plenty of indoor and outdoor covered seating.

The Cabin is where you can also find an accessible toilet with baby changing facilities or there are more facilities in the main Club building a short walk away.

You can also eat in the Brasserie in the main Club from 6.30am until 9pm. It’s a good idea to book this in advance.

How much does a round of adventure golf cost?

Prices are £8 for adults and £6 for children. There are reduced prices for Club members and further reductions for Royal Navy and Royal Marines families.

Top fact: the China Fleet Club was originally founded for the benefit of Royal Navy and Royal Marine personnel and families but is now open to everyone. I’ve talked a bit about its background in this post about one of our previous visits.

When is it open?

China Fleet Club’s adventure golf course and Cabin Bar are open from 9am until 10pm daily. There’s no need to book.

Find out more on the Club website.

Where is China Fleet County Club?
