Like all mums, I juggle a lot of balls. In fact I have started to wonder what I used to do with my time before I became a parent.
The hours of my week are now gobbled up by my part-time job in PR, a little bit of freelance work to top up the pennies, dog walking, blogging, volunteering my skills a couple of good causes, and being a mummy. I sometimes remember the housework and my poor neglected husband. Oh, and then there’s Tin Box.
It’s inevitable that every now and then I drop a ball. This week that ‘ball’ was Tin Box Tot’s sponsored toddle.
TBT attends a lovely little nursery. The buildings are not much to look at, but what happens inside is magic in my eyes. Every day she comes home in her spare set of clothes, which I know means she has had great fun at messy play time.
Anyway, the toddle was happening to raise money for a makeover of the nursery garden. It’s a bit of a mud pit and is in desperate need of some shiny new play equipment.
On the morning of the toddle I woke up feeling quite smug that I had actually remembered the event was happening. Then it dawned on me. There was a theme: nursery rhymes.
I had only six hours to work on a fancy dress costume and no opportunity to visit the shops. My mind went blank.
I’m not the most creative of people when it comes to making things or coming up with ideas, so I decided to post my dilemma on Facebook and Twitter.
And social media saved the day! Here are some of the really easy and free ideas that my friends and followers shared with me.
- Twinkle Twinkle Little Star – dress up in yellow, silver or gold clothes
- Little Bo Peep – put on a dress and a sun hat and accessorise with a cuddly sheep or two
- Mary had a Little Lamb – see above
- Jack and Jill – any clothes will do, just add a bucket!
- Wee Willy Winkie – Pajamas
What could be simpler?! We went for Little Bo Peep. Doesn’t TBT look cute!

So simple! I have great trouble coming up with ideas and always resort to social media for help - there is always someone who knows what to do

It did thank you. The outfit just about survived being dripped in beans, jelly and spaghetti. It was very messy but great fun. Hopefully lots of pennies raised for the nursery!! :)

Facebook is great for ideas isn't it - that and pinterest. She looks gorgeous. Hope the toddle went well.
