Essentials for an outdoor adventure with kids
There’s always so much to sling in your rucksack before a mini-trip with the family: waterproofs, multiple snacks and of course something for us all to put our bums on for picnics during walks and days out.
This is when a compact, lightweight and waterproof picnic blanket is essential and the folks at Rubbastuff have just the thing!
They have used their own experience as outdoorsy parents to come up with practical, fun and washable picnic mats in a variety of prints.
We’re particular fans of their OS map PACMATS which cover everywhere from Cornwall to the Isle of Skye.
This lightweight, waterproof and durable picnic blanket is not only super handy for family outings, it can also inspire your future adventures around the UK.
PACMAT specifications
Rubbastuff’s Family PACMATS cost £44.99 and measures 140cm x 140cm when rolled out and 15cm x 12cm x 12cm when packed away – ideal for popping in a rucksack and taking on family hikes, trips to the park or rolling out in the garden at home.
You can also get them in the following sizes:
- SOLO – 140cm x 60cm
- XL – 240cm x 140cm
- XXL – 280cm x 240cm
- Patch – 60cm x 60cm

Even better news is Rubbastuff’s PACMAT picnic mats are made in Britain using Ordnance Survey maps to make them super practical for outdoor adventures.
There are similar mats around, so don’t been fooled by copycat products.
Rubastuff PACMATS are:
- Made in Britain
- Made from recycled materials
- Have button hole corners
- Have been voted the Indy Best picnic blanket for adventurers.
Our review of the PACMAT picnic mat
The PACMAT is a fun, quality outdoor accessory. It washes well and is so portable. If there’s any chance that we’ll need it when we go out I don’t have to think twice about popping it in my bag. It takes up very little room.
In fact, we loved our first PACMAT so much we bought another one! They are super handy to have in the car and our boot box at home, ready to be grabbed for outings.
The Rubbastuff pegs (bought separately) are also useful for securing your mat on hard sand and grass surfaces. You’ll find peg holes in each corner of Rubbastuff’s PACMATs.
