Lakes, storms and cakes

With storms forecast and flood warnings a plenty, we didn’t have great hopes for this weekend away. Luckily for us the great British weather didn’t live up to expectations.

We were caravanning with the West Hampshire Centre of the Caravan Club at Somerley Lakes near Ringwood in Dorset. It’s a lovely location with the rally field set among trees overlooking the lakes.

We got our share of the forecast storms in the early hours of Saturday. There was a spectacular show of lightning bolts and roaring thunder for at least 30 minutes. If we had been more organised we would have had the camera ready, but we decided jumping out of bed wasn’t such a great idea when the torrential rain began. Tin Box Dog was less than amused with the show and huddled under our bed for safety. The only person to sleep soundly through it all was Tin Box Tot!

The sunshine returned in the morning and stayed with us for the rest of the weekend.

On Saturday afternoon we got together with our fellow ralliers for tea and home-made cakes. Everyone contributed to the spread of cookies, muffins and sliced treats. Dinner was postponed by a few hours!

On Sunday we took a walk around the lakes with TBD who was most upset that she couldn’t take a dip. The anglers wouldn’t have appreciated her ‘help’.

Sadly we’re not away in Tin Box again until the August Bank Holiday. However, we’ve got lots of other adventures planned in the meantime. It’s going to be a busy summer!
