We are big fans of luxury camping or glamping. You get all the benefits of an outdoor holiday with stargazing, toasting marshmallows and plenty of sleep-inducing fresh air for the kids, without the need to pitch your own tent. Here’s a selection of the top places to go glamping in Devon.

Safari glamping tents in Devon: Crealy Meadows – Exeter
If you looking for a theme park with a campsite that also offers glamping then Crealy Meadows at Crealy Adventure Park & Resort near Exeter is the best glamping site in Devon.
Glamping safari tents here include two bedrooms plus a cabin bed, a kitchen with wood burning stove, plug sockets, lighting, a dining table and sofa bed. They sleep up to eight people. All your crockery, utensils and cooking equipment is included.
Outside you have a decked veranda with a rattan garden set, a fire pit and parking for two cars. There’s an excellent toilet block with showers and family bathrooms close by.
Onsite there’s playgrounds, a club house, bar and restaurant, and a day time and evening entertainment programme. You can also book your glamping holiday at Crealy to include entry to this great Devon theme park.

Safari tents with hot tubs: Brackenhill Glamping – South Hams
Brackenhill Glamping is a fantastic glampsite for families looking to holiday in South Devon, spend time in nature but still have access to all the home comforts that you are used to.
The two tents come with bathrooms, kitchens and their own fire pit and wood fire powered hot tub.
The location is ideal for exploring the South Hams with easy access to many local attractions and amenities. Although there is plenty to occupy the children on site while adults take time to relax.
The honesty shop provides all the basics you may need and the Safari tents are extremely well equipped.

Glamping pods in Devon: Andrewshayes Holiday Park – Axminster
These cute glamping pods have wonderful views of the Blackdown Hills in the corner of this family-run holiday park in East Devon.
They sleep up to four people and come with electricity, a veranda with picnic bench, a kettle and heater, and a charcoal barbecue. Just add your own camping equipment!
The site itself is great for kids with a play park, indoor swimming pool and bar with takeaway.

Off grid glamping in South Devon: Meadow Barn Farm
If you are on the hunt for an off-grid, low-impact glamping experience in South Devon, Meadow Barn Farm in East Portlemouth offers glamping the whole family will enjoy.
Devon with Kids contributor Stacey Sheppard was invited to check it out Camp Isobel which is one of the glamping options at the farm.
It’s a self contained glamping set up with shepherd hut for sleeping in, a bell tent that provides a space to relax and a converted horse box that doubles as a bathroom and kitchen.
There are also characterful wooden chalets you can book all year round. Pets are also allowed.

Shepherds hut in North Devon: Strawfields – Ilfracombe
If you’re looking for dog-friendly glamping in Devon then accommodation doesn’t come much prettier than The Hut at Strawfields campsite in North Devon.
It has a double bed, wood burner, fire pit and rustic outdoor seating area. The hut is big enough to fit two adults and a child on a mattress on the floor. If there are more of you, you could always pitch a small tent by the side of the hut or choose one of the larger huts.
The Hut is set in a large open field with a stream. The whole site is dog-friendly but they must be kept on a lead at all times.
The beautifully crafted toilet and shower block was only a short walk away in the Poppy Patch campsite and has two showers with warm water, two toilets and a sink as well as a washing up station with an additional two sinks.

Yurt holidays in Devon: Blackdown yurts – Cullompton
For a relaxing glamping break in the Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in Devon then take a look at Blackdown yurts. Their Mongolian style yurts are set in a field full of wildflowers with breath-taking views of the rolling hills.
Each yurt is furnished with cosy beds, a sideboard for storage and a wood burner to keep the cold out at night. Outside there is a compost toilet (an outside loo where you use sawdust to cover any poo), a camp kitchen and a fire pit with log seats.
Guests also have use of a communal barn kitchen and living area, which is set next door to the recently refurbished bathrooms.
Things glamping site in Cullompton is an excellent base for exploring Mid Devon’s attractions including castles, theme parks and National Trust properties.

Camping pods in Devon: Oakdown Holiday Park – Sidmouth
Take your pick of traditional wooden glamping pods, futuristic tunnel pods or shabby chic shepherds huts at Oakdown Holiday Park in East Devon.
We stayed in Premier Plus Glamping Pod at this award-winning holiday park just outside Sidmouth on Devon’s Jurassic Coast.
The pod was somewhere in-between a touring caravan and tent. It had solid sides, a canvas awning, beds and electrics. It came with its own decking, a recycled plastic picnic bench for al fresco dining, three deckchairs and two metal stools.
If you don’t fancy eating outdoors there’s a small fold out table and four stools tucked away inside.
Close by you’ll find the Donkey Sanctuary, which is a free place to visit, as well as Seaton Tramway and lots of wonderful beaches for fossil hunting. Find out more in our guide to places to visit in East Devon.

Glamping on Dartmoor: Woodovis Park – Tavistock
If you are looking for a touring campsite on Dartmoor with glamping accommodation and holiday homes then we can recommend Woodovis Park. This small yet perfectly formed site offers all types of camping options including camping pods.
There are two grades of glamping pod sleeping up to four people. Bench seats turn into a double bed and two camping beds provide space for children. The Super Pods come with a table and chairs, double glazing, insulated walls, a heater, electric socket, lighting and a small TV.
Dartmoor and surrounding West Devon have plenty of outdoor activities for families like cycling at Tamar Trails or plenty of walks for all abilities.

Glamping in North Devon: Welcombe X – Hartland
This small caravan and campsite in North Devon has touring pitches and glamping accommodation. This includes a very pretty glamping gypsy wagon, a shed on wheels and static caravan available for hire.
Next to the gypsy wagon and shed on wheels there’s there’s a small shower block. This has two shower rooms (one with a toilet), a separate toilet and dishwashing area.
Something for families to be aware of is that there’s no playground on this campsite. It’s also next to a busy main road. However, there’s plenty of things to do in Hartland, like visiting the Abbey which has been used as a filming location in numerous TV series and films, scrambling over the rocks at Hartland Quay and exploring the unique fishing village of Clovelly.

Glamping on a working farm: Feather Down at Fountain Violet Farm
Fountain Violet Farm is located in Kingswear near the River Dart with views across to Dartmouth. It’s a small site with four canvas lodges, each sleeping six people.
Each lodge comes with real beds, furniture and a bathroom – there’s no roughing it here. Plus there’s a well-equipped kitchen,a wood burner inside and a gas stove outside where there’s also a picnic table for each lodge.
Be aware there are no plug sockets in the lodges.
As well as being a good location for exploring Dartmouth and Brixham, Violet Farm is very close to the attractions of Paignton and Torquay. Here you’ll find beaches, family-friendly museums and places like Kents Cavern which tell the story of this area’s unique history.
