An Easter break in Cornwall

An Easter break in Cornwall

Sharing is caring!

We were really late planning our Easter break, mainly because we’ve been arranging lots of trips for April, May and June. It suddenly crept up on us.

With our lack of organisation it could have been a bit of a disaster but it turned out to be an amazing weekend. A week before I had read a blog post about visit to the Eden Project (I’d love to credit it here but my memory fails me) and decided it would be a great day out to build our weekend around. It was a also another excuse to get out in our caravan after our recent trip to North Devon.

Here’s a video of our adventures:

Now on to the full story…

Where we stayed

Tin Box pitched at Looe Caravan Club site in Cornwall

We’re members of the Caravan Club and their closest site to the Eden Project is just outside Looe – a beautiful Cornish seaside town. The site has more than 200 pitches, two toilet blocks, a tennis court, a heated outdoor pool (open May to September) and children’s playground. It’s also dog-friendly and has a walk for four-legged friends.

We pitched up in the bottom field where there are sea views through the valley on a nice day.

The site staff were so friendly and gave us a key to the baby and toddler room in the toilet block when we arrived. It was a great facility with a baby changing table, bath tub and low level toilet. Tin Box Tot has never been so enthusiastic about bath time.

What we did

We arrived on Good Friday, which was by far the best day of the weekend. After setting up the caravan we wanted to make the most of the good weather and headed towards Looe where there are a couple of beaches that welcome dogs all year round. We opted for Hannafore Beach, which looks out towards St George’s Island.

It’s a shingle beach with a promenade and lots of rocks. On the cliff top there’s the Island View Cafe which looked very popular when we drove past. On the beach a causeway stretches out across the rocks at low tide.

After throwing the ball for Tin Box Dog and letting the girls get suitably sandy we went back to the caravan for a barbecued tea.

The next morning we set off for the Eden Project, which was a 40 minute drive away.  I was so excited about this day out. I’ve been to the Eden Project twice before and remembered how impressive the biomes are. I also knew that there had been a lot of work done at the attraction in the past decade so I was looking forward to seeing it in its more established state. I wasn’t disappointed.

Of course visiting with two pre-schoolers is a very different experience than before kids, but even the odd toddler tantrum couldn’t spoil our day.

Sadly Good Friday’s sun didn’t repeat itself but the Eden Project was a great wet weather family day out. We were also able to get annual passes by booking online so hopefully we can visit again on a nicer day.

On Easter Sunday Mr Tin Box set up a mini egg hunt at the caravan which is something we have done with Tin Box Tot for the past four years.

It got her in the mood for the rest of our day. We had decided to brave the continuing wet weather and visit Lanhydrock House and Gardens – a National Trust property in Bodmin. It was running a couple of Easter trails for kids and Tin Box Tot had a lot of fun completing them.

Some how we managed to stay dry for most of the day – picking the right time to look around the fascinating house and pop to the restaurant for lunch.

Tin Box Tot was really pleased with the chocolate bunny she received for completing the outdoor trail, which cost us £3, and demolished it before we got back to the car.

Back at the caravan site there was time for a visit to the playground before bed. It was a bit of a blowy night but nothing like the storms we experienced in the caravan at New Year.

On our final day in Cornwall we made the most of the sunny morning with a trip to the dog-friendly beach at nearby Seaton. It looked like every other dog owner in the area had had the same idea. The waves stirred up by the storm were quite dramatic.

We enjoyed a huge lunch at The Smugglers Inn at Seaton before heading back to the caravan site and hitching up.

I can honestly say we had the most lovely weekend. Looe was a great place to stay and we were able to visit some fantastic places close by. I’m sure we’ll be back soon.

Eden Project is great. We went on Good Friday so was lucky with the gorgeous weather. Did you manage to find a Golden Egg? xx

Unfortunately no. Tin Box Tot wasn't really in the mood that day, but had great fun finding eggs at Lanhydrock the next day :)

What a great weekend - the National Trust easter egg hunts are so fun, and looks like a lovely weekend in Cornwall. We finally made it to the Eden Project for the first time and the biomes are incredible, although I'm glad it's not just my daughter who chose them for a tantrum... Looe and Lanhydrock are still on my list... #countrykids

I love the photo by the causeway. We went to the Eden project in 2009 so I wonder how much has changed, but the biomes are impressive either way. We did a NT Easter trail in York and Hampshire this year, our first visits to both and weren't disappointed #CountryKids
